ZEALOT
Nexy uniquely writes detailed
articles for each blade. You may be curious to know why other brands don’t
provide such comprehensive descriptions about their blades. There could be many
answers, but I think the most obvious and simple answer is that they cannot
spend the time eulogizing upon the release of each new product. Most brands
produce without focusing on creating something different from previous models,
so they cannot repeat the same explanation for each blade. Even though they
might be fortunate enough to produce something better than before, they still
cannot claim that their new blades are better because that would upset customers
who bought previous models.
넥시는 모든 블레이드에 대해서 상세한 소개글을 작성해
왔습니다. 왜 다른 브랜드들은 그렇게
상세글을 남지기 않는지 궁금하시겠지요? 여러 가지 대답이 있을 수 있겠지만, 가장 두드러진 답변을 찾는 다면 매 제품 출시마다 그
제품이 제일 좋은 것이라고 자화자찬 하기가 어렵다는 것이 그 원인이 아닐까 싶습니다. 대부분의 브랜드들은 제품을 개발하면서 이전 제품과는 다른
새로운 차별점을 찾는 데 실패하고 있습니다. 그러니 동일한 목표 아래 개발된 제품들에 대해서 차별화된
설명글을 쓰는 것 자체가 어렵지요. 비록 이전 제품보다 더 좋은 제품을 만들 수 있었다고
하더라도 그 제품이 이전 제품보다 더 좋은 것이라고 말하면 결국 이전 제품을 구입하신 분들에게 실망을 드리는 결과가 될
것입니다.
As for Nexy, I do not try to
upgrade, but rather I try to focus on what I want to make at that specific
moment. So, most blades are somewhat different from previous models.
Nevertheless, I strongly believe that Nexy has grown and improved, especially
with ZEALOT, which represents a huge step forward. This blade features all the
good things Nexy has been endeavoring to equip in its blades, and I have some
information to share to illustrate all the upgraded
features.
넥시의 경우는 제품을 업그레이드 한다는 개념으로 제작하지
않습니다. 그것 보다는 어떤 특정
시기에 원하는 특성이 무엇인지에 보다 더 집중해서 제품을 개발합니다. 그러므로 모든 제품들이 이전 제품과 다른 새로운 점들을
가지고 태어납니다. (즉 업그레이드라기 보다 옆그레이드들이 다양하게 일어난다고 할 수
있지요.)
그럼에도 불구하고 저는 확신하는데 넥시 제품이 지속적으로 더
성장하고 있다고 생각합니다. 특히
젤롯의 경우는 비약적인 발전이 이루어졌습니다. 젤롯은 넥시가 그동안 추구해 왔던 많은 특장점들을 한 곳에
모아 놓은 듯한 블레이드입니다.어떤 면에서 그럴까요?
One of the differences between the
3rd and 4th Generation blades is that the balance point of features has shifted.
Speed is now more emphasized. With celluloid balls, Nexy did not focus as much
on speed. When you compare the 3rd and 4th Generations you will notice that 4th
Generation blades are generally a little faster without being thicker. In this
way, Nexy has certainly advanced. The easiest way to add speed is to make the
blade thicker, but Nexy’s 4th Generation will not be that way, except for
AKRASIA, which has been created by players’ request, not from the designer’s own
concept.
3세대에서 4세대로 넘어 오면서 확실하게 구분되는 점은 제품들이
추구하는 이상적 지점 자체가 이동했다는 것입니다. 스피드가 더 높은 지점으로 옮겨
졌습니다. 셀룰로이드 공 시대에는
지금보다 스피드의 기준점이 낮았습니다. 3세대와 4세대 제품을 비교하신다면 4세대에 이르러 제품 자체의 두께는 더 증가하지 않으면서도
스피드 자체가 더 높아진 것을 발견하실 것입니다. 이것이 쉬운 일은 아닙니다. 이런 면에서 넥시가 성장하고 있다는 증거를 발견할 수
있지요. 블레이드의 스피드를 증가시키는
방법은 일반적으로 두께를 늘리는 것입니다. 그러나 넥시는 아크라시아의 경우를
제외하고는 (아크라시아는 소비자들의
요구에 의해 탄생한 예외적인 블레이드로, 4세대 라인업의 흐름과는 조금 벗어나 있습니다.) 그런 방식으로 스피드를 늘리지 않으려고
합니다.
The second feature is “point”
factor. Nexy’s latest designs focus on this element, which allows players to
feel the impact of the ball on one focused point and at a specific depth, not on
the whole plane. When I designed ZEALOT, I tried to understand that this “point”
factor is not only a sharp point on the blade, but also a wider area that allows
players to feel the entire impact zone of the ball. Still, it’s not the whole
blade, but a specific area that we can call “point.” I previously mentioned this
concept during the release of CHEDECH, because I thought it was important to
understand that the “point” factor is wider than the 3rd Generation for optimal
use with the poly ball. For the 3rd Generation, I tried to design a blade with
very sharp point factor, almost like a needle’s point. But with the 4th
Generation, I made this point wider to cover the entire impact zone of the
ball.
또 하나의 특징은 “점” 요소에 있습니다. 넥시의 최근 제품들은 이 점의 요소에 집중하고
있는데요, 이 요소를 잘 살리면
블레이드 전체가 아니라 특정 깊이의 한 점에 임팩트가 가해지는 것을 비교적 선명하게 느낄 수 있습니다. 젤롯을 디자인할 때 이 “점”의 요소를 뾰족한
한 점으로 생각하지 않고 공의 임팩트를 확실히 느낄 수 있는 조금 더 넓은 면적으로 이해하려고 했습니다. 그렇지만 여전히 이것은 블레이드 전체가 아닌 한
점입니다. 이것은 3세대와의 뚜렷한 차이점 중의 하나라고 할 수
있는데요, 그렇기 때문에 체데크를
개발할 때에도 점 자체가 보다 더 넓어 지도록 하는 방향을 적용했으며 젤롯과 체데크는 그런 점에서 유사합니다. 반면 3세대는 바늘 끝처럼 뾰족한 한 지점에 공이 타구 되는
것을 느낄 수 있도록 하는 데 많은 신경을 썼습니다. (어느 쪽이 좋은가 하는 것은 제가 결정할 수 있는 부분이
아닙니다. 많은
분들이 3세대의 뾰족한 감각을 더
좋아하실 수도 있지요.) 하지만 4세대는 보다 더 넓은 부위에서 임팩트를 느낄 수
있습니다.
This concept inspired me to find
new surface woods. I used Wenge wood for CHEDECH and a special secret wood for
ZEALOT. This unique and mysterious top ply gives players a wider point area on
the blade, which allows a more stable stroke per each movement without
sacrificing speed. It is very stable at all positions. I am sure that ZEALOT
will raise Nexy to a new level as a globally successful
brand.
이러한 설계 방향은 새로운 표면재를 발굴해야 한다는 숙제를
안겨 주었습니다. 그래서 체데크를
위해서는 보다 넓은 점의 감각을 줄 수 있는 웬지 목재를 사용했고, 이 젤롯의 경우는 아직 공개하지는 않겠지만 넥시가 발굴한
독특한 목재를 사용했습니다. 이
독특하면서도 비밀스런 표면층은 매 스윙 동작마다 스피드의 손실은 없으면서도 보다 더 정확하고 안정적인 스트로크가 가능하도록 조금 더
넓은 “점” 요소를 제공합니다. 따라서 모든 위치에서 매우
안정적입니다. 저는 젤롯을 통해 넥시가
국제적인 브랜드로 성공리에 안착하게 되리라고 확신합니다.
The name “ZEALOT” comes from the
Jewish people, who resisted Roman tyranny. We can relate this word to “Passion,”
which is the very core aspect for Nexy to be Nexy. And now, with this blade
ZEALOT, people will see Nexy’s true spirit, which will never yield to any
temptation or threat!
“젤롯”이라는 이름은 로마의 학정에 저항했던
유대인들로부터 기원합니다. “열정”이라는 말과 비슷한 단어인데요, 사실 넥시가 추구하는 핵심 정신이 바로 이 “열정”이 아닌가
생각합니다. 이제 넥시의 젤롯을 통해서
많은 분들은 넥시가 추구하는 정신이 무엇인지 아시게 될 것입니다. 넥시는 어떤 유혹이나(대충 쉽게
만들어 보자, 상도의는 좀 어겨도
괜찮다 등등) 혹은 어떤
위협에도(덤핑 등의 시장의 압력) 굴복하지 않는 투지를 가지고
있습니다.
